OTT Navigator EPG Not Working? Diagnose It by Layer

If channels play but the programme guide is blank, incomplete, or shifted, use this symptom-first workflow to find whether the problem is the EPG source, channel mapping, or device time.

If video playback works but programme information is missing, diagnose the EPG layer separately.

First: separate EPG from playback

If a channel plays but has no programme information, the stream itself is not necessarily the problem. OTT Navigator treats EPG as a separate source/configuration layer. The official FAQ provides dedicated EPG reload and provider configuration paths.

1. Reload EPG and read the result

Open Settings → EPG → Reload. Do not stop at pressing Reload: the official FAQ says to watch the reload status, including the number of sources processed and each source's processing result.

This gives you a useful split: a source that does not process points toward source/configuration problems, while a successfully processed source with no visible guide can point toward channel matching.

2. If the provider has an EPG but the playlist does not specify it

The official FAQ recommends configuring the provider's EPG source at Settings → Provider → your provider → Parameters → EPG. This provider-level configuration can search for matches using both channel names andtvg-id.

3. If only some channels are missing

Partial EPG coverage is a strong reason to inspect mapping rather than repeatedly reinstalling the application. Compare the affected playlist channel with the corresponding guide entry.

  • Check whether the channel name is different between the playlist and guide.
  • Check whether the playlist provides a tvg-id.
  • Check whether the provider-level EPG configuration is being used.
  • Reload EPG after changing the relevant configuration.

The official M3U documentation describes tvg-id as an EPG channel identifier and tvg-name as the original guide name when it differs from the playlist channel name.

Successful EPG loading still requires the guide data to match the corresponding playlist channels.

4. If the EPG source loads but remains unmatched

Loading guide data and associating it with a channel are different operations. A successful source reload does not guarantee that every playlist channel has a matching guide entry.

5. If EPG times are wrong

Check the device's configured time and timezone first. The official FAQ says an incorrect device timezone is a common cause of incorrect EPG times. If necessary, it documents visual/system time shifts, per-channel EPG time shifts, and provider-level time shifts. After changing a shift, it says to manually reload EPG data.

6. Understand the playlist EPG metadata

OTT Navigator's M3U documentation describes url-tvgas a playlist-level reference to an XMLTV guide, and documents channel-level identifiers such astvg-id and tvg-name. These fields help explain why two playlists pointing to similar streams can behave differently when their guide metadata is not equivalent.

A fast EPG diagnosis matrix

Use the reload result and the scope of the failure to choose the next test. This avoids reinstalling the player when the stream and application are already working.

When to contact the provider

If the EPG source no longer processes, the provider should confirm that the guide endpoint/source is still available and that the playlist or account is supposed to include guide data. OTT Navigator's own FAQ also directs users toward their provider for provider-side stream and configuration issues.
